Kingdom

Kingdom (Korean: 킹덤) is a Netflix Original South Korean television series that first premiered on January 25, 2019. The second season premiered on March 13, 2020. A third season is anticipated but unconfirmed. A special episode titled, Ashin of the North was released on July 23, 2021.

The series is written by Kim Eun-hee and directed by Kim Seong-hun. It is Netflix’s first original Korean series.

Waco

Waco is an American television miniseries, developed by John Erick Dowdle and Drew Dowdle, that premiered on January 24, 2018, on Paramount Network. The six-episode series dramatizes the 1993 standoff between the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the Branch Davidians in Waco, Texas and stars Michael Shannon, Taylor Kitsch, Andrea Riseborough, Paul Sparks, Rory Culkin, Shea Whigham, Melissa Benoist, John Leguizamo, Julia Garner, and Glenn Fleshler. The miniseries received a mixed response from critics who praised the performances and tension, but criticized the show’s sympathetic approach to Branch Davidian leader David Koresh.

Dawson’s Creek

Dawson’s Creek is an American teen drama television series about the lives of a close-knit group of friends in the fictional town of Capeside, Massachusetts, beginning in high school and continuing into college that ran from 1998 to 2003. The series starred James Van Der Beek as Dawson LeeryKatie Holmes as his best friend and love interestJoey PotterJoshua Jackson as their fellow friend Pacey Witter, and Michelle Williams as Jen Lindley, a New York City transplant to Capeside. The show was created by Kevin Williamson and debuted on The WB on January 20, 1998. It was produced by Columbia TriStar Television (renamed Sony Pictures Television before the sixth and final season) and was filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina. The series ended on May 14, 2003.

Along with Buffy the Vampire SlayerDawson’s Creek became the flagship show for The WB and launched its main cast to international stardom. The show placed at No. 90 on Entertainment Weekly‘s “New TV Classics” list in 2007. It has also been credited with kicking off a boom of teen-centered shows in the late 1990s that continued into the 2000s.

9-1-1: Lone Star

9-1-1: Lone Star is an American procedural drama television series focusing on the fire, police, and ambulance departments of the fictional company 126, located in Austin, Texas. The use of “Lone Star” in the name associates it with Texas, the “Lone Star State”. It was created for Fox by Ryan MurphyBrad Falchuk, and Tim Minear. The series is a spin-off of the television series 9-1-1, and was ordered by Fox in May 2019. It premiered on January 19, 2020.

In April 2020, Fox renewed the series for a second season which premiered on January 18, 2021. In May 2021, the series was renewed for a third season which premiered on January 3, 2022. In May 2022, the series was renewed for a fourth season which is set to premiere on January 24, 2023

The Last of Us

The Last of Us is an American post-apocalyptic drama television series created by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann for HBO. Based on the 2013 video game developed by Naughty Dog, the series will follow Joel (Pedro Pascal), a smuggler tasked with escorting the teenage Ellie (Bella Ramsey) across a post-apocalyptic United States. It features Gabriel Luna as Joel’s younger brother TommyMerle Dandridge as resistance leader Marlene, and Anna Torv as Joel’s smuggler partner Tess.

The Last of Us, said to be the largest television production in Canadian history, was filmed in Alberta from July 2021 to June 2022. It is the first HBO series to be based on a video game, and is a joint production by Sony Pictures TelevisionPlayStation Productions, Naughty Dog, the Mighty Mint and Word Games. The first season consists of nine episodes written by Druckmann, who wrote and co-directed the original game, and Mazin. Gustavo Santaolalla, who composed for the game, composed the score. The series is set to debut on January 15, 2023. It received acclaim from critics, who praised the performances, writing, production design, and score; several considered it the best live-action video game adaptation.

WandaVision

WandaVision is an American television miniseries created by Jac Schaeffer for the streaming service Disney+, based on Marvel Comics featuring the characters Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch and Vision. It is the first television series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) produced by Marvel Studios, sharing continuity with the films of the franchise, and is set after the events of the film Avengers: Endgame (2019). It follows Wanda Maximoff and Vision as they live an idyllic suburban life in the town of Westview, New Jersey, until their reality starts moving through different decades of sitcom homages and television tropes. Schaeffer served as head writer for the series, which was directed by Matt Shakman.

Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany reprise their respective roles as Maximoff and Vision from the film series, with Debra Jo RuppFred MelamedKathryn HahnTeyonah ParrisRandall ParkKat Dennings, and Evan Peters also starring. By September 2018, Marvel Studios was developing a number of limited series for Disney+ centered on supporting characters from the MCU films such as Maximoff and Vision, with Olsen and Bettany returning. Schaeffer was hired in January 2019, with the series officially announced that April, and Shakman joining in August. The production used era-appropriate sets, costumes, and effects to recreate the different sitcom styles that the series pays homage to. Filming began in Atlanta, Georgia, in November 2019, before production halted in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Production resumed in Los Angeles in September 2020 and wrapped that November.

WandaVision premiered with its first two episodes on January 15, 2021, and ran for nine episodes, concluding on March 5. It is the first series, and beginning, of Phase Four of the MCU. The series received praise from critics for its homages to past sitcoms and for the performances of its cast, especially those of Olsen, Bettany, and Hahn, though there was criticism for the finale. It was widely discussed and analyzed by fans based on various popular theories, as well as by commentators for its exploration of grief and nostalgia. The series has received numerous accolades, including 23 Primetime Emmy Award nominations, winning three. Olsen reprised her role in the film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), which continues Maximoff’s story from WandaVision, while two spin-off series are in development: Agatha: Coven of Chaos focused on Hahn’s Agatha Harkness and Vision Quest focused on Bettany’s Vision.

Devils

Devils (ItalianDiavoli) is a financial thriller drama television series created by Alessandro Sermoneta, Mario Ruggeri, Elena Bucaccio, Guido Maria Brera , Daniele Cesarano, Barbara Petronio, and Ezio Abbate for Lux Vide  and Sky Italy. It is based on the 2014 novel of the same title by Brera.  Devils is a Lux Vide and Sky Italy production in association with Orange Studio and OCS.

The series premiered on 17 April 2020 on Sky Atlantic in Italy. Ahead of its premiere, the series was renewed for a second season.

Narcos: Mexico

Narcos: Mexico is an American-Mexican crime drama streaming television series created and produced by Chris Brancato, Carlo Bernard, and Doug Miro that premiered on Netflix on November 16, 2018. It was originally intended to be the fourth season of the Netflix series Narcos, but it was ultimately developed as a companion series. It focuses on the development of Mexico’s illegal drug trade, whereas the parent series centered on the establishment of Colombia’s illegal drug trade. The series’ second season premiered on February 13, 2020. On October 28, 2020, Netflix renewed the series for a third and final season but announced that actor Diego Luna would not be returning to reprise his role as Félix Gallardo. The third and final season premiered on November 5, 2021.

Carnival Row

Carnival Row is an American neo-noir fantasy television series created by René Echevarria and Travis Beacham, based on Beacham’s unproduced film spec scriptA Killing on Carnival Row.[3] The series stars Orlando BloomCara DelevingneSimon McBurneyTamzin MerchantDavid GyasiAndrew GowerKarla Crome, Arty Froushan, Indira Varma, and Jared Harris. Carnival Row premiered its first season on Amazon Prime Video on August 30, 2019 in its entirety. In July 2019, Amazon renewed Carnival Row for a second season, which is set to premiere on February 17, 2023, and will serve as the series’ final season.

Lizzie McGuire is an American comedy television series created by Terri Minsky that premiered on Disney Channel on January 12, 2001. The series stars Hilary Duffas the titular character, who navigates the personal and social issues of her teenage years; and an animated version of the character voiced by Duff, who performs soliloquies to express Lizzie’s inner thoughts and emotions. The series also stars Lalaine, Adam Lamberg, Jake Thomas, Hallie Todd and Robert Carradine. The series concluded on February 14, 2004, after a total of 65 episodes were produced. A feature film based on the series, The Lizzie McGuire Movie, was released in 2003.

The Worst Witch is a fantasy drama children’s television series. Based on novel series of the same name published in 1974 by Jill Murphy, the series follows Mildred Hubble (Bella Ramsey (series 1–3), Lydia Page (series 4)) and her friends Maud Spellbody (Meibh Campbell (series 1), Megan Hughes (series 2–4) and Enid Nightshade (Tamara Smart) and rivals Ethel Hallow (Jenny Richardson), Drusilla Paddock (Tallulah Milligan) and Felicity Foxglove’s (Dagny Rollins) adventures and education at Cackle’s Academy under caring headmistress Miss Cackle (Clare Higgins) and strict deputy headmistress Miss Hardbroom (Raquel Cassidy). It is the fifth adaptation of The Worst Witch series after the 1986 television film, the 1998 television series, the 2001 television spin-off and the 2005 television spin-off.

The series was an international co production between CBBCZDF and Netflix. The series was made available to stream internationally on Netflix on 22 July 2017. It was available to members in the UK, Ireland and Germany after its premiere on CBBC and ZDF. The series premiered on CBBC on 11 January 2017. A second series began airing from 8 January 2018.

It is a spin-off of the short-form alt-comedy series Childrens Hospital, that parodiedmedical dramas, whereas Medical Police is a parody of international spy thrillers. The series stars Erinn Hayes and Rob Huebel as Childrens Hospital doctors Lola Spratt and Owen Maestro. When they discover a world-threatening virus, they are recruited as government agents in a globe-spanning race to find a cure. In the process, they unmask a deep conspiracy amidst the outbreak.Released during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, the series’ depiction of a global disease outbreak has been described as “inadvertently timely.”
